Mahabharata is an ocean of information. It is the most important epic mythology of India. There is so much to learn from every character of Mahabharata. When we understand the deep meaning hidden inside Mahabharata, it makes us know the art of living. The treasure of Bhagavadgita has evolved from the churning of Mahabharat.

The essence of Mahabharata can be explained in 9 lessons.

1.Always finish what you have started. Whatever happens, one must not escape from his duties and must complete the duty assigned to him. Even after Pandavas lost their children, they did their duty. Don't wait for some miracles to happen, one must believe in their hard work. God always helps those who help themselves.

2. Stand by what is right. Follow your ethics. One must never change their path and their thinking for the sake of temporary material happiness. If one has to fight a war also in this process, he should not hesitate.Kurukshetra war is a war against dharma over adharma.Fight for your rights, Draupadi has fought for her justice and her respect. Karna has fought for his identity.
3. Be true to your relations. Whether it is friendship or the bond between the family members, one must feel responsible and must be readily available to their needs. Lord Vasudeva shared an eternal bond of friendship with Draupadi and he has set an example of responsibility. Karna has never left Durdodhana’s side and he always tried to make Duryodhana know his mistakes. Pandavas love between themselves and their mother.

4. Knowledge is wealth. One must gain full knowledge of their jobs before doing them. Half knowledge is always dangerous. If Abhimanyu had known about the exit from Padmavyuham, he would have survived the war. The right kind of knowledge of power and advice must have made Duryodhana choose Vasudeva over Narayani Sena.

5. Think before you take an oath, maybe it is not bad for you, but it may make serious consequences. What may seem good now may not be so in the future. Gandhari’s oath stopped her from being a good queen and good mother, Bhishma's oath has led to the destruction of the Kuru empire. Always think twice while making promises. Situations may change, circumstances may change, and the promises one makes may not be beneficial for him and the world around him.

6. Don’t follow others' advice blindly. One must have a clear conscience. There will be people advising us what to do next and how to move in our every path of life. What is important to us, may not be important from them. Each one has a different vision of others' life. It is going to be us who are going to bear the consequences of the advice. Even if you listen to others' advice, follow your heart as well as mind before taking the action. Don’t make the bad influence ruin your life as Sakuni did to Duryodhana.

7. Time and tide wait for none. Take wise decisions at the right time, Don’t wait for the perfect time like Kunthi who failed to reveal the truth of Karna. Karna wouldn’t have suffered his entire life fighting for his identity.

8.Don’t let hurdles stop you from reaching the goals. One always faces hurdles and difficulties in their life. One must learn to accept them and move on. Nothing must prevent us from reaching our goals. Eklavya was denied an education by Dronacharya, he didn’t stop himself. Karna was rejected by Dronacharya, he found ways to learn the skills he always wanted.

9. Don’t be greedy. One must learn gratitude and to be thankful for little things in life.No ocean can satisfy the thirst of a greedy man. It is the greed of Satyavathi who is responsible for Bhishma's oath. It is the greed of Duryodhan that has made Pandavas suffer their entire life. At the end of the day, who slept peacefully, is it Duryodhana or the Pandavas?
